In other words, this is a router that can simultaneously deliver up to 4,600Mbps, 1,733Mbps, and 800Mbps Wi-Fi speeds on 60GHz, 5GHz and 2.4GHz frequency bands, respectively. The X10 also incorporates a quad-stream (4x4) 802.11ac access point to support all existing Wi-Fi devices. Multiple Wi-Fi standards, multi-gigabit wired connections The X10, for example, can support up to 4,600 megabits per second (or 4.6 gigabits per second) in a single 802.11ad Wi-Fi connection compared to the 1,733Mbps top speed of of 802.11ac. To make up for that, 802.11ad has ultrafast Wi-Fi speed. (For more on the 802.11ad and other Wi-Fi standards, check out this post.) This makes 802.11ad more of a replacement for wireless USB 3.0 than a fully functional Wi-Fi standard. Since its signal can't penetrate obstacles like walls, the standard is used only for clients that stay close to and within line of sight of the router. And second, it has an extremely short range, around 15 to 20 feet and even shorter in case of the X10 (more on this below). First, it doesn't function with existing Wi-Fi clients rather, only those that support 802.11ad are compatible.
NETGEAR R9000 VS R8500 DRIVERS
The new wifi drivers I feel are wonky on the R8500.Not to be confused with 802.11ax, the 802.11ad standard, which operates on the 60GHz frequency band, is a supplement to regular Wi-Fi rather than a replacement for it for two reasons. I hope to get back to dd-wrt but the unstable behaviour from this unit with dd-wrt is scarring me.
On multiple occasions one radio disappears, when I was able to load my backup config. When I try to go back to dd-wrt now the firmware doesn't show radios, I am unable to load my backup config, when I reboot my router it goes back to default setup page. I tried fiddling around with the wifi settings and going back to netgear firmware to see if that would help.
NETGEAR R9000 VS R8500 PRO
One of my 5GHz radios tx for my macbook pro would never show 1300M. For some reason I can't get dd-wrt to work on my box anymore. I am playing with koolshare Merlin right now. I have been having issues with my r8500 and dd-wrt of late. I'm looking to switch to dd-wrt on this router and limit the wifi to 1000ghz. That's the modem, it is working fine when I limit the 5Ghz to 1000mbps. Is not this the model you should avoid like the plague? This router has a capability to limit the wifi mode, by default it is setup to 2165 Mbps, in tis mode nothing will connect, as soon as I limit it to 1000Mbps I was able to connect from far and get good speed. I did some more testing today, this time I put the Netgear firmware back on the router.
I know that I had some success at the beginning with tis router but suddenly it stop functioning correctly, not sure which version it started.
NETGEAR R9000 VS R8500 WINDOWS
The wifi connection speed if I monitor it in windows 10, as soon as I connect starts with 650Mbs and drops to ~ 39Mbs. Putting the original Netgear firmware I get good speed. Getting further I get maybe 5 Mbs when the other router I can get ~100Mbs. I have another router in the same room and I can get easily 400Mbs on wifi 5GhZ, the r8500 gives me ~ 120Mbs. I installed every version I can on this router for testing, wifi speed, even close to the router is slow. Posted: Sun 23:58 Post subject: Netgear R8500 slow wifi speed
